Biography JEAN CARLIER

Born in 1935, on February 10, in Hellemmes-Lille , an industrial town in the north of France, Jean Carlier was an only son ; his father was a drawer, his mother a milliner. He started to draw very early, helped by his father's expperience and his mother artistic ability. One day, ke had to follow his family to Paris, out of his childhood and origin area. But the WWII coming, his stay at his grandparents'house, located in Montdidier, Somme, became very frequet. That's were he got his passion for the botany ( his grandfather was a gardener ) and his interest for the colours of the stained glass church window, the church were he went every Subday, accompagnied by his grand mother. In the same way, he discovered oil painting and realized his first drawingw ( he was just 6 !) .

Under the parental pressure, Jean Carlier began technical studies that drove him to an "Arts et Metiers" diploma, he was 23 . .Durig his studies, following his professor's advice, he visited a lot of museums and conceived a passion for the light of Corot's landscapes and por the rigour of Buffet's first works, which will have an influence on his works for many years. After twenty months of military service in Taverny , where he used his talents as a drawer in attendance on the army , he was promoted lieutenant .

Then , Jean Carlier got married with an academic professor, born like him in the north of France. They gave birth to two children. From this moment to 1996, he devoted himself to his professionalactivity, precisely in the industrial steam generator domain. But hecontinued, during his free time, his artistic activities, and did many works announcing his future creations. And thanks to his job travels, Jean Carlier discovered a lot of picturial information in every area and country he went that has guided his future artistic processes.

Since 1996, Jean Carlier has renewed definitively with his artistic activity and has produced about a hundred works. Compared to the other contemporary paintings, Jean Carlier'artistic process, neither representational nor truly abstract,is pretty original, linking last century's artists with virtual print or even comics. Every work develops its own subject, as a different part of a big rhythmical and coloured gallery;they don't drive any message, they just lay claim to impart the beauties of a world,in too dark a way .........
